3 DU students get Prof Habiba Khatun Scholarship
Three meritorious students of the Department of Islamic History and Culture at Dhaka University (DU) on Thursday received "Professor Dr Habiba Khatun Scholarship" for their academic results in BA Honors Examinations.
The scholarship recipients are: Khan Mahbub Morshed, Md Sanaullah and Shathi Khatun, said a DU press release. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique handed over the scholarships as the chief guest among the recipients at a function at the VC's lounge on the campus. Presided over by DU Treasurer Prof Md Kamal Uddin Pro-VC (Administration) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof Abu Md Delwar Hossain, Chairman of the Department of Islamic History and Culture Prof Md Mahfuzul Islam, donor of the trust fund Professor Dr Habiba Khatun and some other faculties were present on this occasion, among others.
Professor Arefin Siddique congratulated the awardees and urged them to play a vital role to make Bangladesh a prosperous country, the release added. Dr Habiba Khatun is a retired Professor of DU Islamic History and Culture Department.
KOICA team meets DU vice-chancellor
A 15-member delegation of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique on Wednesday at his residential office on the campus.
Director General of Southwest and Pacific Asia of KOICA Jung Sang-Hoon led the delegation while Joe Hyungue, Country Director of KOICA Bangladesh Office accompanied the team, said a DU press release today.
DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr Nasreen Ahmad, Treasurer Professor Dr Md Kamal Uddin, Business Studies Faculty Dean Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam, Associate Professor of the Department of Management Dr Muhammad Shariat Ullah, Assistant Professor of the Department of Organization Strategy and Leadership Md Rashedur Rahman and some other faculty members were present at the meeting, among others. During the meeting, they discussed the possibilities of undertaking different development projects at Dhaka University with the financial assistance from KOICA, the release added.
They also discussed on signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between DU and KOICA in this regard soon.
JU botany dept celebrates anniversary
SAVAR: The Department of Botany of Jahangirnagar University (JU) celebrated its 30th founding anniversary on campus yesterday with fanfare and festivity.
JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Farzana Islam inaugurated the programmes at the premises of the department around 10am.
Later, a colorful procession, led by JU VC, was brought out from the department premises which paraded different streets on campus and ended it at Zahir Raihan Auditorium.
There, a discussion programme was held at the seminar room of the auditorium while VC Dr Farzana Islam attended the programme as chief guest.
In her brief speech, JU VC Dr Farzana said, “The students and teachers of the botany department have to play important role for reservation of the environment”. JU Pro-VC Prof Abul Hossain, Treasure prof Abul Khair and Chairman of Channel i and also the chairman of Prokriti O Jibon Foundation Mukit Mozumder Babu also spoke at the programme as special guest while senior professor of the department Dr. Jahid Uddin Khan presided it.
