Plywood factory catches fire

A fire broke out at a plywood factory in Rafat Tower at Karwabazar, adjacent to the TCB Bhavan in the capital yesterday afternoon. A fire service source told The Independent that the fire broke out at ‘Sakhawat Timbers’ that made plywood there around 4.30pm yesterday.
On information, seven fire fighters units went to the spot and douse the flame after 40 minutes at 5.10 pm He claimed that they have able to save properties worth about Tk 35 lakh. He said the estimated cost of the damaged timbers worth Tk two lakh.
They put out the fire before it could spread around in one of the capital’s main wholesale market where vegetables, fruits, timbers and fish are traded, a fire official said. The official suspected that originated from electric short circuit However, there was no report of casualties.
