KHULNA: The Khulna Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Kwasa) is constructing a water treatment plant in the city's Mujgunni area involving Tk 20 crore, aiming to sell bottled water among people at low price, reports UNB. The construction work of the plant that started in 2016 on 14 kathas of land is expected to be completed by June, 2018. Piling work of the main building has started already, said Project Manager Selim Ahmed.
Kwasa took the initiative aiming to produce 6000 litres pure drinking water daily which will be sold in 300ml, 500ml, 1 litre and 2 litre bottles on commercial basis, he said adding that this will boost revenue of Kwasa.
The project works include construction of a two storied building, buying raw materials for bottles and mechanical equipment, water purification, packaging and establishment of production tube well. The project authorities signed a deal with the Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Ltd in September, 2016.
