Two killed in wall collapse
Dinajpur: Two people were killed as a mud wall collapsed on them at Nurpur village in Ghoraghat upazila on Wednesday, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as house owner Abdul Kafi, son of Hossain Ali of the village, and worker Deljar Hossain, 35, son Mozammel Haque of Narayanpur village in the upazila.
Officer-in-charge of Ghoraghat Police Station Israil Hossain said the incident took place around 12pm as the wall of an old house collapsed on Kafi and Deljar while they were demolishing it, leaving them injured.
They were taken to Ghoraghat Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead, the OC added.
Rocket launcher used during War of Liberation recovered  
Jessore: Police recovered a rocket launcher, believed to be of 1971 Liberation War, from Cantonment Khayertala Bazar in the town on Wednesday, reports UNB.
Quoting locals, Aminur Rahman, a sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station, said day-labourers found the launcher while digging earth there in the afternoon and informed police who recovered it immediately.
24 Bangladeshi nationals held
Satkhira: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested 24 Bangladeshi nationals while entering the country without valid documents through Kushkhali border point in Sadar upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
Among the arrestees, 13 were children and four women. All of them hail from different parts of Bandarban district.
Tipped off, a team of BGB-38 conducted a drive in the area and arrested them while they were entering the country, said Commanding officer of BGB-38, Lieutenant Colonel Arman Hossain.
Woman burnt to death in Natore
Natore: A septuagenarian woman was burnt to death and her daughter-in-law injured when a fire broke out at a house at Mashinda village in Baraigram upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
The fire originated from a mosquito coil at the house of Ayjan Bibi, 75, at about 2:30 am and it soon spread around, said Nilufar Yasmin, chairman of Nagar Union.
Ayjan was burnt alive as she could not come out of the house while her daughter-in-law Ajela Begum suffered injuries as she came in contact with the snapped electric wire. She was taken to a local clinic.
However, local people managed to extinguish the blaze and recovered the charred body of Ayjan.
Three thatched houses were gutted in the fire while two cattle died in the fire incident.
