Man gets life term for killing wife, housemaid

A court in Manikganj sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for killing his wife and a housemaid yesterday. After hearing all the records and witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Al Mahmud Foyzul Kabir handed down the verdict in presence of the convict. The convict was identified as Ibne Kaisar Mukul, 32, an inhabitant of Baira village in Singair upazila of Manikganj district. According to the prosecution, Ibne Kaisar Mukul hacked his wife Nargis Akter to death over family feud on January 13, 2013. Mukul also hacked Saki Begum, a house maid, who tried to resist Mukul. Critically injured Saki Begum died after admitting her at Singair upazila health complex.
Victim’s father Gias Uddin filed a murder case against Mukul with Singair Police Station on the day.Police recovered the body and sent to Manikganj Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination and arrested the accused. Later, Mukul gave a confessional statement before the court.
SI Anamul Hoque, investigation officer of the murder case framed charge sheet against the accused under section 302 on March 19, 2013.
The court recorded deposition by all 18 witnesses before passing the verdict. Additional Public Prosecutor of the court Advocate Mothur Nath Sarkar defended state while Advocate Mezbah Uddin defended the accused.
