Former skippers Shahriar Nafees and Mohammad Ashraful expressed their optimism about one day series, stating that Bangladesh will triumph the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.
The series between the two closed-ranked ODI sides will kick off in Dambulla on Saturday. Sri Lanka placed sixth in ICC ODI Team Rankings, whilst Bangladesh seventh.
Considering the recent performance and the track record in one day, Bangladesh first T20 skipper Shahrira Nafees said that they will win the one day series though the victory will not be so easy for them.
“International cricket is always tough. Although Bangladesh drew the Test series by winning the last Test match outstandingly, Sri Lanka will not give up the one day series without any fight,” said Shahriar Nafees, who is preparing himself for the next campaign of Dhaka Premier League (DPL) after Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL). This year the left-handed opener batsman will play for Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club along side Arafat Sunny and Marshall Ayub.
On the other hand, Mohammad Asharaful shared the same sentiment but defied in case of T20 series. “I personally believe that the current team of Bangladesh is better than this Sri Lankan side. We staged a wonderful comeback in Test. We drew the Test series by winning the last Test that was our 100th Test,” said Mohammad Ashraful, who returned to cricket with National Cricket League (NCL) after four-year-long hiatus for his fixing involvement in BPL.
“I think we are yet to be good build-up in T20. Our possibility in T20 is to make a draw. Winning will be difficult for us.”
