Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician Dr Debashis Roy on Thursday said that wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Kumar Das required at least six to seven weeks to return to his practice after the recurrence of rib trauma.
Liton was struck by the ball on his left rib cage during the batting practice at net in Sri Lanka ahead of the second and last Test of the two-Test series against the home side. He missed the historic 100th Test of Bangladesh due to his rib injury.
“Such type of injury takes four to six weeks to be fully healed. As it is a rib trauma, there is always a matter of movement. As a wicket keeper, his movement is more than other players, so we are thinking that his recovery time will be a bit lengthy,” said Debashis Roy.
“It will take at least six to seven weeks for him to come back in practice,” Dr Roy told reporters at his office of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
“The progress of his injury till Wednesday is that there is no pain in his normal activity,” he added. The chief physician said that they will start his rehabilitation in the next week.
“We asked him to take complete rest for the next one week. We will start his rehabilitation after that. Hopefully if we could do his rehab properly, he will then come to his batting practice within two or three weeks,” Debashis said.
On the other hand, pacer Mohammad Shahid, who came back home from Australia after undergoing surgery on his knee, made a satisfactory progress in last one month.
“We review him after four weeks. His rehab is going on under physiotherapist. His progress in last one month is satisfactory. He can walk with no crutch. He has no pain in his normal movement. He successfully completed his first stage of rehab,” Roy said of Mohammad Shahid, who sustained injury on his knee during the last BPL.
“We will start the second rehab just after one and half-a-months. He will also continue his physiotherapy in the next week in an effort to minimize his leg pain, bring back his range,” he also said.
“We will emphasis on increasing his strength, balance on second stage, which will keep going for the next three weeks. Then we gradually bring him in weight bearing, strengthening exercise,” he added.
Paceman Alauddin Babu among the injured players has an injury on his leg. He is falling into injury very often. Last time he fell into injury at the time of the league. Then he had recuperated it. But this time it recurred again. And so, he could not play the Emerging Teams Cup. He is now under the observation of physiotherapist.
