Sonam Sultana Shoma of Abahani Limited has every reason to celebrate as the former national champion earned a double crown in the women’s event in the Federation Cup Table Tennis tournament at the Shaheed Tajuddin Indoor Gymnasium on Wednesday.
Shoma, who took a break from the game for almost two years, staged a magnificent comeback with an impressive 4-1 games win over Rahima Akhter of Bangladesh Army in the women’s singles final.
Javed Ahmed of Parititi club won the title of men’s single event defeating Masud Rana Parag by 4-2 games in the men’s final.
Shoma also played a key role during the team’s success in women’s team event when she pairing with Mou clinched the title beating Rahima and Rumi of Army in the final.
In the men’s team event, Bangladesh Army won the trophy while Mahbub, Rocky Nasir and Hasib defeated their Biman Bangladesh’s opponents Anez Antu and Himel.
Asif Ahmed Mridha, Director of International Business Forum distributed prizes among the winners as chief guest. Khondokar Hassan Munir, general secretary of the Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation, (BTT), vice-presidents of the BTT Munira Morshed and Jahangir Alam were also present among others.
