Three held with arm, ammo 
Law enforcers arrested three people, including a woman, and recovered one pipe gun, two rounds of cartridges, four handmade bombs and 58 yaba tablets on Wednesday night.
Golam Sarwar, officer-in-charge of Wazirpur police station, acknowledging the facts said police arrested the trio from Madarsi village of Wazirpur upazila and identified as Nargis Begum, Ziaur Rahman and Md Anis.  Among them Nargis and Zia were known as drug peddlers and Anis was drug addicted. Police lodged three cases under firearms, explosive and narcotic control acts with this police station and sent the arrested to jail after producing before the court, the OC of Wazirpur police station said.

3 cyber fraudulent gang held 
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested three members of an international fraudulent gang involved in cyber crimes from the capital's Mohammadpur area.
A squad of RAB-3 arrested the trio on charges of cheating people as they have collected a huge amount of money from the people using the facebook and email and misappropriated those, said a SMS (Short Message Service) sent to media through mobile phones yesterday morning.

US embassy holiday              
The American Embassy in Dhaka including its consular section will remain closed on Sunday to celebrate the Independence Day, a Bangladeshi national holiday.
The American Center with the Archer K. Blood American Center Library and the Education USA, Student Advising Center, will also remain closed on the day.
However, emergency services for American citizens will be available (call 5566-2000 to speak with the duty officer), said a press release yesterday.

Bicycle race begins Sunday
A three-day bicycle race title d'Tour De HT Mountain Bike Racing' will begin in Rangamati district on Sunday.
The ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs and Bangladesh Adventure Club will jointly organise the event in a bid to develop the country's tourism industry, said Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Secretary Naba Bikram Kishore Tripura at a press conference at the secretary on Wednesday. A total of 42 cyclists, including a female competitor, will start the race from in front of Sajek valley in Rangamati and finish in Nilgiri of Bandarban district via Khagrachhari after having raced through 250 kilometres of roads, he said.

Fire guts properties in Rangpur 
A devastating fire gutted properties at workshop of the Power Sales and Distribution Division-1 of Power Development Board (PDB) in Shapla Chattar area in Rangpur city yesterday morning, official sources said.
“The fire erupted at around 5:30 am following a probable short circuit in the workshop,” said Deputy Director of Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Shahidul Islam. “Eight units of fire fighters from different Fire Service and Civil Defense Stations in the district rushed there and brought the fire under control in association with PDB authorities within one and a half hours,” he added. Talking to BSS, Executive Engineer of the Power Sales and Distribution Division-1 of PDB Golam Mortuza said the extent of losses of properties might be around Taka 20 lakh as per primary estimations.

3 held with 9,200 yaba tablets 
 Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested three drug peddlers including a woman with 9,200 pieces of contraband yaba tablets from city's Natunpara area under Biyazid thana on Tuesday night,.
The arrested were identified as Monir Hossain, 31, Mizanur Rahman, 20 and Halima Begum 23. Acting on a tip-off, a team of Biyazid thana police intercepted a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Natunpara area under Biyazid thana at about 10.40 pm and recovered the Yaba tablets from their possession, said Mohammad Mohsin, Officer-in-Charge of Biyazid thana.     A case was filed with Biyazid Thana under Narcotics Control Act in this connection.
