Workers and employees of Barisal City Corporation (BCC) yesterday laid siege to chief executive officer in his room and staged a demonstration blocking the main gate of BCC demanding their arrears and due salaries of last five months.
They demonstration programme was continue till filing the report.
Anisur Rahman, one of the agitated employees, said about 500 regular employees of BCC (Class Three and Four) are not getting their salaries from last five months. Officer of BCC, however, are getting their salaries regularly, he alleged.
Other employees also alleged that “There is discrimination of salaries created by the mayor”. We demanded the update status of our salaries but BCC authority failed to do it from the first. We, the poor, are employees passing our daily life painfully, they added.
Md Waheduzaman, Chief Executive Officer of BCC, acknowledging the facts said “Payment of the employees increased due to new pay scale but income of the corporation did not increase”.
He hoped that problem will be solved as soon possible.
