A rare sakar fish, caught from Hamadar Beel, was released in the pond of Jhenidah upazila parishad yesterday afternoon.
Jhenidah Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Julker Niyen said the rare fish was netted by a fisherman Kalidas Sarkar while fishing in the beel on Tuesday.
Officer of fisheries department of Jhenidah Kanailal Hawladar said the fish was about one kilogram in weight and 40 centimeters in length.
The fish was first kept in fisheries department hatchery, but finally released in upazila parishod pond.
He said: “We don’t know the actual name of the fish, but it belongs to rare Sakar species.”
