Man to die for killing wife

A court in Chapainawabganj sentenced a man to death and fined him Tk 50,000 for killing his wife for dowry.The convicted person is Rubel, 25, of Shibnagar village in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district.
Additional district and session judge of Chapainawabganj Ziaur Rahman gave the verdict on Monday afternoon in presence of the convict.
According to the prosecution story, Rubel took Tk 80,000 as dowry from his father-in-law during marriage and demanded 50,000 more and a bicycle. Since their marriage he used to torture his wife Bobita, 19, daughter of Shariful Islam of Debinagar village in Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila. On July 1, 2014 Rubel killed Bobita and later hung her body with the ceiling.
Bobita’s father Shariful Islam filed a murder case with Shibganj police station next day. Later, sub-inspector Abul Kalam Azad of Shibganj police station submitted charge sheet with the court on November 12, 2014 accusing Rubel, his father Tajel Ali, mother Nadira Begum and sister Nasrin Sultana.
