South Africa will come up with all guns blazing to press for a victory against Bangladesh if they can be unscathed in the first session of the fourth day, said the team’s off-spinner Simon Harmer.
The visitors had already reduced the deficit to 17 runs, losing no wickets after Bangladesh gained a 78 runs lead, scoring 326 in reply of South Africa’s 248.
Harmer saw the positive things of not taking any wicket on the third day which had to be brought up to a premature end because of bad light and a spell of afternoon shower.
“Dean Elgar and Stiaan Van Zyl did a good job today evening to go unscathed in that last session especially with the bad light and the rain around.
I think the first session is going to be our target tomorrow,” he said.
The wicket also showed a sign of being deteriorated which gave Harmer a confidence about their chance when Bangladesh would bat in the fourth innings.
“It has deteriorated quite a bit so far obviously the subcontinent you know that coming into day three spinners will come into the game.
It’s been nice to see how much it has deteriorated as a spinner. And I think we can’t look too far ahead in terms of target and stuff like that because there is still a lot of cricket left to be played in this game.”
He gave a credit to Bangladesh for playing so well defying the relentless attack of South Africa.
“They batted well. A couple of their players really batted well. They didn’t give us any chances. It’s not like we were dropping a lot of catches or whatever,” he said.
