Bangladesh still have the edge over South Africa, claimed Bangladesh wicket-keeper Litton Das, stating that scoring runs in this wicket is not easier.
He emphasised on to bowl well in the first session of the fourth day to take the full control of the match.
“The plus point is that they still couldn’t surpass our lead so if we bowl in planned way, we could have a chance to dominate them,” Litton Das who brought up his maiden half-century in only his second Test told the reporters after third day’s play.
“It could have been good if we had taken few wickets today. That didn’t happen but still we are ahead of them.
The wicket is tough to bat on. We have to bowl wicket to wicket because there is assistance for the bowlers.”
He considered the target of 150 or 200 as good for them to win the match in the fourth innings.
“We’ll try to restrict them as less runs as possible. I think 150 or 200 will be easier to overcome.”
Bangladesh moved 78 runs clear by racking up 326 in their first innings, their highest Test innings against South Africa, eclipsing the previous best of 259 in a losing cause at Mirpur in 2008 and the highest lead after batting second.
Litton termed the 78 runs lead as sizeable one, saying, “It could have been better had we got some more runs but 78 runs lead is not bad if you look at the wicket.”
As Shakib played a rash shot to throw his wicket, Litton was only batsman to extend the lead, guiding the tail-ender.
Mohammad Shahid eased his work by plundering Simon Harmer 18 runs in an over. Shahid’s aggressive knock came as help for Litton to occupy the crease. However after his dismissal he also lost his wicket to Vernon Philander and the hope of taking the least past 100 was shattered.
“May be I made some mistakes in taking decision,” he said about his dismissal, disclosing that there was vast difference between domestic and international cricket.
Litton impressed the selectors by scoring over 1000 runs in a single season in the domestic first class cricket. He also made nearly 800 runs in domestic limited overs cricket.
“In domestic cricket, you will get enough loose balls but here hardly I got any loose deliveries. But I tried to stick to my style and the way I am used to play. I didn’t try many things.”
“The condition demands to play watchfully so I refrained me from playing aggressive cricket. I want to give my best for the team whatever role I play.”
His playing style has already branded him as the most elegant batsman in the current batch.
He showed a glimpse of his elegance en route to his maiden fifty when he struck a cover drive boundary off Morne Morkel. The shot is considered as the most elegant stroke in the three days of play from either side.
“I tried to play a long innings but I couldn’t do it. The lower order was exposed so I had to concentrate on playing as many overs as we can.”
