Seminar on ‘Green Living and Working’ held
A seminar at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) in the capital yetserday called for global efforts to combat environmental degradation.
The seminar on 'Green Living and Working' was held at Bijoy Auditorium on BUP campus at Mirpur, said a press release. Department of Environmental Science the university organised the event. BUP Vice-chancellor (VC) Maj Gen Md Salahuddin Miaji addressed the seminar as chief guest. Pro-VC Professor Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah attended seminar as special guest while Brigadier General Akhtaruzzaman Siddique moderated it.
German environmentalist Matthias Gelber presented a keynote in the seminar.
The speakers underscored the need for global efforts to combat environmental degradation and said that Bangladesh would be the worst victim of it. Senior officials, officers, teachers and students of the university attended the seminar, among others.
Open dialogue on women empowerment held
The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) organised an ‘Open Dialogue on Women Empowerment’ at the American International University- Bangladesh (AIUB) auditorium recently, says a press release.
Around 200 students gathered to talk with their Vice -Chancellor Dr Carmen Z Lamagna. She shared her experience with the students, both male and female, to further the empowerment of women, through the young leaders of tomorrow.
The students opened up with questions on how she transitioned from a relatively developed Philippines to an underdeveloped Bangladesh back in the 1990s. Following her career path, she shared the changes her life underwent as she worked towards establishing an academic institution, encouraging female students to apply, and engaging them in carrying the baton of women empowerment forward.
‘English festival- 2017’ held at Rajshahi College
A day-long ‘English Festival- 2017’ with the theme of “Literature for exploring life” was held at Rajshahi College on Monday. The event was organised by English Department on the campus.
Marking the event, teachers, students and officials brought out a rally and arranged discussion at the college auditorium. Principal of Rajshahi College Prof Habibur Rahman was the chief guest while dept chairman Dr Pizush Kanti Foujdar presided over the programme.
Short course of Diploma in Development Studies launched at UIU
United International University (UIU) has launched a short course of Diploma in Development Studies on China: Government, Policies, Business, Culture including beginners Chinese Language, says a press release.
As the recent progress in the diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and China, it generated scope and opportunities of business, cooperation in the fields of education and research, building collaborative initiatives of trade and commerce and industries. One big challenge for Bangladesh is to increase exports to China and develop two countries “Bangladesh and China” investment relations. Given Bangladesh's steady economic growth and urbanisation, business partnership with China, the country, especially the business and knowledge sectors need to develop knowledge, skills, understanding and research capacity on China.
