Experts at human chain programme yesterday stressed the need for proper management of waste water to resolve the drinking water crises instead of over relying on underground water.
The reuse of waste water will help us to fulfill our increased demand of drinking water. It will also expedite generation of power and industrial development, they said.
The experts observed that the quantity of waste water increasing worldwide due to rapid urbanisation, increase of population and operation unplanned development activities.
The human chain programme was organised jointly by 16 non-government organisations including Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon, Poribesh Bachao Andolon, NGO Forum for Public Health in front of the National Press Club to mark the World Water Day.
“Different rivers including that of surrounding the Dhaka city have become a pool of waste waters. Thus we should consider reuse of waste water for our existence,” said Joseph Halder, head of advocacy and information of NGO Forum for Public Health.
President of Nagarik Odhikar Songrokhhon Forum Hafizur Rahman Moyna said, “We use water for different requirements and we can consider reuse of type of waste water.”
BAPA joint general secretary Mihir Biswas said despite having four rivers surrounding the capital city of Dhaka, our drinking water has been bottled.
