Country achieves ‘remarkable success ’

Bangladesh has achieved a remarkable success in advancing women and is now regarded as a role model in the world in promoting women, said State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze Chumki, reports UNB.
The junior minister said this while making the country statement at the ongoing 61st session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) at United Nations (UN) Headquarters, according to Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations.
The session began on Mach 3 and will be concluded on March 24. Chumki, who is leading the Bangladesh delegation to the session, mentioned that the journey to promote empowerment of women began since Bangladesh’s independence as policies and institutional measures had been taken for the development of women under Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s leadership. 
“We’ve established daycare centres for the children of working women, strengthened the social safety net programmes for vulnerable women and promoting women entrepreneurs at the grassroots level,” said the junior minister. During the last three years, some 1, 69,711 women were employed in foreign countries and they sent a large amount of remittances back home, said Chumki.
