BSF returns Bangladeshi youth
Satkhira: Indian Border Security Force (BSF) returned a Bangladeshi national in Kolaroa upazila after a flag meeting with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Sunday, reports UNB.
A BSF team from Tarali camp detained Hussain Gayen, 20, son of Mojibur Gayen of Abad Chandipur village in Shyamnagar upazila, from kakdanga border point on Saturday, said Akhteruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Kolaroa Police station.
Later, BSF sent a letter to BGB and returned the youth in the afternoon after the meeting.
Father, son jailed over child marriage attempt
Manikganj: A mobile court here on Monday morning sentenced a father and his son to one month’s jail each as the latter was trying to marry an underage girl at Daulatpur in the district, reports UNB.
On information that an underage girl was about to be married off at Shonarkandi, police went to the house of the bride and arrested ‘bridegroom’ Monir Hossain,16, and his father Abdur Razzak on Sunday night, said officer-in-charge of Daulatpur Police Station Rakibuzzaman.
Later, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Kaniz Fatema, also the Executive Magistrate of the upazila, handed down the punishment.
Woman killed in road crash

A housewife was killed and 10 others were injured in a road accident in Bhatkura area on the Dhaka-Tangail highway under Sadar upazila of the district yesterday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Kulsum Hasan, 42, wife of Hasan Ali, hailed from Mirerbetka area in the district town.
Police said the accident occurred when a bus collided head-on with a truck in the area at about 4 pm, leaving bus passenger Kulsum dead on the spot and ten others injured.
The injured were sent to Tangail Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Robbers loot 25 vehicles
Chuadanga: Robbers looted valuables from the passengers of 25 vehicles, including three night coaches near Ghoramara Bridge in Alamdanga upazila on Sunday night, reports UNB.
Witnesses said a gang of 7-8 robbers put barricades on Alamdanga road with logs and looted valuables, including gold ornaments, cash and mobile phone sets, from the passengers. The robbers also stabbed three people, including a bus driver and a trucker, as they tried to resist them.
Three villages brought under power network in Naogaon
Three villages of Niamatpur upazila in the district have been brought under rural electrification network by Naogaon Palli Bidyut Samity (NPBS) yesterday, reports BSS.
Local Lawmaker Sadhon Chandra Majumder Prodhan formally inaugurated the electrification programme at a simple function at Nandigram-Ghatipara village of the upazila as the chief guest.
Chairman of Hajinagar union parishad Abdur Razzak presided over the function while chairman of the upazila parishad Alhajj Enamul Haque and deputy general manager of NPBS Engineer Ranjan Kumar Gosh addressed it, among others. A total of 104 families of three villages got the new connections. NPBS brought the villages under rural electrification network spending about Taka over 23 lakh.
