The Supreme Court yesterday rejected a review petition filed by Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) against its previous order rejecting plea for recording the testimonies of some witnesses in 24-year-old radar purchase scam case against Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, reports UNB.
A four-member bench of Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice S K Sinha, passed the order.
Lawyer Khursid Alam Khan stood for the ACC and Advocate Sirajul Islam for Ershad.
On November 24, 2016, the High Court asked the authorities concerned to dispose of the radar purchase graft case against former President and Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad by March 31, 2017.
SC rejects ACC Later, the ACC filed a petition with the Supreme Court seeking its order for recording the testimonies of some witnesses.
On January 08, the SC rejected the petition. Later, ACC appealed for reviewing the order.
Now-defunct Bureau of Anti Corruption filed the case against former military ruler Ershad and four others with Cantonment police station on May 4, 1992.
Abdus Sattar Sarkar, a former BAC official, pressed charges against Ershad and four others on October 27, 1994. The charge-sheet was submitted in the case on October 27, 1994.
The court framed charges against the accused on August 12, 1995.
The other accused in the case are former Air Force chief Air Vice-Marshal (retd) Sultan Mahmud, Former Air Force chief Momtaj Uddin Ahmed, and Director of United Traders AKM Musa.
