Raids on Ctg ‘militant dens’ draw a blank

The Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) yesterday conducted raids at two suspected hideouts of militants in Chittagong’s Akbarsha.

A CMP team conducted the raid at Sri Shah Building in Kali Bari area of Ishan Mohajan Lane from 4pm to 6.30pm yesterday. 
Another raid was conducted at MMH Nibas in the CDA Residential Area of Colonel Haat under Akbarsha police station.
The five-storied Sri Shah Building is owned by Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Co. Ltd’s former general manager Rishi Shah. MMH Nibas, a four-storied building, is owned by Mozammel Haque, a former marine engineer. 

However, no militant or explosive was found in the two-and-a-half-hour drive. “We conducted the raids as part of our regular drive. But we found no militants or explosives,” confirmed Farukul Haque, deputy police commissioner (West) of the CMP.
“We carried out the search after being informed that militants were using the two houses as hideouts,” Nazmul Hasan, additional deputy commissioner (North) of the CMP, said.
On March 7, suspected militant Hasan and Jashim had hurled crude bombs at the police when the latter were conducting a drive against speeding vehicles at Chandina area in Comilla. Police and villagers chased the militants and nabbed them. Four handmade bombs and a sharp knife were seized from them.
On the basis of the information they gave, police seized 29 grenades and bomb-making materials from a house at Mirsarai Upazila of Chittagong on March 8.
On Wednesday, a couple was arrested from a house, and five persons, including four militants, were killed in another house of Sitakunda in Chittagong.
Police also seized many bombs and some important documents, including the blueprints of sabotage the militants were planning to carry out.
