PANCHAGARH: A bumper production and fair price of wheat have brought smiles on the faces of Panchagarh farmers, reports BSS.
Newly harvested wheat has started to come to the market. Existing price of wheat in the local market has raised hope among the farmers as it is being sold at Taka 830 to 850 per maund.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) of Panchagarh said, a total of 15682 hectares of land was brought under wheat cultivation in the district this year and a bumper harvest of 47,830 metric tones could be achieved.
When contacted Rashidul Islam, a farmer of the village Sonaher under Debiganj upazila said, "I have cultivated wheat in 4 acres of land and I have harvested 130 maund of wheat. I hope to earn Tk 1, 10,000 while my production cost was Tk 50 thousand."
Deputy Director(DAE) Of Panchagarh Md Asraf Ali told BSS that modern cultivation methods, distribution of high quality seed to the farmers, need base training and ensuring irrigation facilities including other agriculture inputs to the growers at fair prices were the main reasons behind the bumper production of wheat in the district.
