Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon announced a whopping Tk. 1 crore bonus for the Bangladesh team after their historic victory in centenary Test against the hosts Sri Lanka in Colombo yesterday. In Test history, Bangladesh is the fourth team after Australia (vs South Africa), Pakistan (vs Australia) and West Indies (vs Australia) which have won their 100th Test.
This is Bangladesh ninth Test victory in all since their elevation to Test cricket in 2000. Along with that, this is the fourth away Test wins for Bangladesh, two of which came in the West Indies in 2009 and one each in Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.
“The way Bangladesh have been performing, I had beliefs, we will triumph this historic Test match. Truly it has been happened. I am delighted about the outcomes and announced one crore taka as bonus for the winning Bangladesh team,” said Nazmul Hassan.
“After going there, I sat with the players and team officials daily to inspire them and perform well coming out from their shells. I have tried to build up the combination and understanding between the senior and the junior players of the team,” Papon told media at his residence in the capital in his immediate reaction just after the Tigers’ historic Test win.
Bangladesh will next play a three-match one day international series against the Islanders before moving into the two-match Twenty20 series. The BCB president said that the biggest challenge lies ahead of the three-match one day international series. “The main challenge for Bangladesh will be in one-day series. We have to play better to fare well in one day series,” Nazmul said.
“If we could win one day and T20 series, we will celebrate the victory in wide range after their return,” he informed.
