Month-long Ctg int’l trade fair begins

The 25th Chittagong International Trade Fair (CITF) 2017 kicked off at the Railway Pologround in Chittagong yesterday. 

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu inaugurated the month-long fair organised by Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI).
Speaking on the occasion the industries minister said the role of industrial sector is being strengthened in national economy. “Sustainable and environment friendly development is the political commitment of Awami League government. To implement the commitment we are working with the aim of qualitative change in industrial secretor,” said Amir Hossain Amu.
 He also said, “As per direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Ministry of Industries has already formulated the National Industrial Policy 2016.  The aim of the policy is to create Entrepreneur and production friendly atmosphere,” said the Minister.
Referring to the industrial sector’s contribution to the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) is growing, said the Minister, “According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, the contribution of Industrial sector in GDP in fiscal year 2015-2016 is 31.54 per cent. In fiscal year 2015-2016 it was 31.54 per cent while in fiscal year 2014-2015 it was 30.42 per cent.” 
City Mayor AJM Nasir, Acting President of Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry Md Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) and Fair Committee chairman Nurul Newaz Salim spoke in the inaugural ceremony.
