Christian Von Mitzlaff, Adviser, Sustainable Textiles, GIZ, Germany called on Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, and University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh at the latter’s office yesterday.
Afsaruddin Ahmed, Senior Advisor, Promotion of Social and Environmental Standards in the Industry (PSES), GIZ assisted Mitzlaff.
Mitzlaff informed the chairman that the German government through GIZ is interested in working with Bangladesh in areas of Textiles and Higher Education to produce high quality skilled manpower for socio- economic development of the country. GIZ is also willing to train the faculty members of the textiles universities and textile related disciplines to enhance the quality of teaching-learning and research at tertiary level.
Christian Von Mitzlaff, presented project proposal in the meeting and after elaborate discussion, project document was finalised.
They also stressed the need for establishing academic and research collaboration among the higher educational institutions of Bangladesh and Germany.
The chairman of UGC observed that the project will significantly contribute to the capacity building of the country’s textile education and enhancement of higher education in the textile sector.
