Call to mitigate public sufferings

Speakers at a human chain in Shahbagh on Saturday have demanded accountability on construction of infrastructures at random in the name of development leading to public safety like deaths following collapse of flyover girders.

These constructions posing often as death traps ignoring the public safety like the under construction Moghbazar-Mouchak flyover led to death of one and injuries to two others recently, they said.
Such accidents have occurred earlier in the Dhaka city. Despite that the builders did not take preventive steps to ensure public safety, the green activists and civic activists observed.
Chaired by Poribesh Bachao Andolan (POBA) General Secretary Engr Abdus Sobhan, the rally was addressed among others, by Subandhan Samajik Kalayan President Mohammad Habibur Rahman, Camelia Choudhury,WBB Trust project official Atiqur Rahman, POBA member Rifat Hasan and  Bangladesh Cycle Lane implementation president Aminul Islam Tubbus.
They noted that due to construction without safety concern to the people, the city was facing rise in public health concern due to higher level of dust generated from such unplanned constructions and road digging, ignoring the public safety, left the Bangladeshi capital ranking second in the world in terms of air pollution.
