The fourth death anniversary of former President Zillur Rahman, a veteran politician and Language Movement hero, an organiser of the Liberation War, and one of the close associates of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will be observed today, reports UNB.
Zillur Rahman died of old-age complications at a Singapore hospital on March 20, 2013.
He started his political career as a volunteer of Awami League and was inducted as the 19th president of the country on February 12, 2009. He discharged his responsibilities as general secretary of AL for 12 years for five different terms.
Bangladesh Awami League, its associate bodies, other like-minded organisations and socio-cultural and professional bodies have chalked out various programmes to pay homage to the late leader.
The programmes include: placing wreaths at Banani grave of the President, milad mahfil, Qurankhwani , doa-munajat and discussions in the capital and elsewhere across the country.
Awami League will place wreath at his grave at Banani graveyard in the capital at 8:00am while a milad mahfil will be held at late President's Gulshan residence after Asr prayers.
His family members will visit his grave and offer prayers there.
Meanwhile, AL general secretary Obaidul Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, called upon all party leaders and workers to make the programmes a success.
