A suspected drug peddler who suffered bullet wounds during a brief gunfight with police at Charaitkandi village in sadar upazila on Friday night died at Feni Sadar Hospital yesterday morning while a suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Hazipur village in Kashba upazila of Brahmanbaria on the same day, reports UNB. Acting on information, police raided the house of 'drug peddler' Nurul Afsar Fakir Ahmed, 35, at night, said Md Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Sonagazi Model Police Station.
Sensing the police presence, Nurul along with his family members attacked them, prompting the law enforcers to fire in retaliation which left Nurul wounded with bullets.
He was taken to local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries in the morning.
Police also arrested his two brothers -- Moin Uddin Alamgir, 32, and Salah Uddin, 21-- along with 10 kilograms of hemp, 805 pieces of Yaba pills, and heroin and liquor.
The OC also claimed that six policemen were injured during the fight. Meanwhile, a suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Hazipur village in Kashba upazila early yesterday. Police arrested Zahirul Islam alias Kala Zahir from Kamalpur village and then conducted a drive there with him to capture his cohorts as well, said Mohiuddin Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Kashba Police Station. As the police were raiding the village, his cohorts opened fire on them, prompting them to fire back that triggered the ‘gunfight’, leaving Zahir dead on the spot. The body of Zahir, an accused in six cases, was sent to Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Police also claimed that they recovered a pipe gun from the spot.
