RU student drowns in pond
RAJSHAHI: A Rajshahi University student drowned in a pond inside Teachers Training College on Thursday evening.
Fahim Hossain, 20, a 1st year student of English Department of the university, drowned in the pond while taking bath around 6:30 pm.
On information, a firefighting unit rushed in and recovered Fahim, said Omar Faruk, station officer of Rajshahi Fire Service. Fahim, hailing from Jamalpur district, was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Dhaka-M'singh rail link restored after 6 hours
GAZIPUR: Train services on Dhaka-Mymensingh route restored after six hours of suspension following derailment of a bogie at Joydebpur Rail Station yesterday.
Earlier, the compartment of Mymensingh-bound 'Jamuna Express' from Dhaka veered off the track while entering the railway station around 7:15 am, halting train movement on the route, said Dadon Mia, assistant sub-inspector of Jopydebpur Railway Station.
A number of trains remained stranded following the derailment. However, the train services resumed around 12:55 pm after a relief train salvaged the bogie.
Dr Razee’s death anniv observed
The 32nd death anniversary of Dr Aleem Al-Razee, a noted jurist, parliamentarian, educationist and philanthropist, was observed with due respect.
Different voluntary, socio-cultural organisations and educational institutions organised various programmes on the occasion. Dr Aleem Al-Razee Memorial Council members laid floral wreaths and offered fateha at Razee's graveyard in Banani in the morning and held a milad mahfil in his remembrance in his native village on the day.
Discussion meetings on the life and works of Razee were organised, among others, by the Shandhani National Eye Donation Society (SNEDS), City Law College, Dhaka Nagarpur Government College, Nagarpur and Dr Aleem Al-Razee High School, Lowhati, Tangail. At the discussion meeting and milad mahfil held at Aleem Al-Razee High School, teachers and students of the school were present.
BAF organises seminar on safety
The 40th seminar on command safety of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) was held at the BAF Falcon Hall in the capital on Thursday.
Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Abu Esrar attended the seminar as the chief guest and later he distributed Flight Safety Trophies for maintaining best safety record, said an ISPR release. Bangladesh Air Force Base Bashar was awarded 'Inter-Base Flight Safety Trophy' and 11 Squadron of BAF was awarded 'Inter-Squadron Khademul Bashar Flight Safety Trophy' for special achievement in 2016.
Speaking on the occasion, the Air Chief said flight safety is an evolving process and a manifestation of attachments and commitment of BAF towards flight safety.
