The 98th birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed in different cities yesterday with a call to materialized the cherished dream of Bangabandhu. The day is celebrated as the National Children's Day. The day is also a public holiday. On this day in 1920, the architect of the nation was born at Tungipara of Gopalganj. Staff Reporter, Barisal adds: Local MP Jebunnesa Afroz started the programmes of the day placing of wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib at Bangabandhu Uddan at zero hour on Thursday night.
The daylong programmes, included hoisting of the national and party flags at Awami League offices in the morning and placing of wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib in front of Aswani Kumar Hall by different organisations. Barisal district administration with the help of women and children affairs directorate, district Shishu Academy arranged discussion, cultural competition and function, prize giving ceremony held on this occasion.
Speakers and participants of these programmes laid emphasis on grooming the young generation with the noble spirit of patriotism so that they can materialize the cherished dream of Sheikh Mujib of building the country as ‘Sonar Bangla’. District and city unit Awami Ligue organized a meeting to mark the day. The two days program organized by Bangabandhu Sangkritik Jote ended this noon.
BSS adds from Rajshahi: Marking the day, the Rajshahi district administration brought out a colourful rally from the Laboratory School premises that ended at Shilpakala Academy ground after parading some of the thoroughfares.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Noor-Ur-Rahman addressed the discussion as chief guest wile Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Kazi Ashraf Uddin was in the chair.
The district administration and Bangladesh Shishu Academy also arranged a daylong programme, including painting competitions, handwriting, essay and extempore speech for children paying rich tributes to the Father of the Nation. Local units of Bangladesh Awami League and its front organisations also celebrated the day through a daylong programme. The speakers said if the children learn the authentic history of Bangladesh, they would be worthy citizens of the country. Rajshahi University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, Rajshahi Education Board and other educational institutions also celebrated the day, paying rich tributes to Bangabandhu.
