3 killed, 15 hurt in road accidents

Three persons, including a college student, were killed and 15 others injured in separate accidents in Gazipur yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Zakir Hossain, 18, son of Abul Hossain of Brahmanbaria district, and a student of Notre Dame College, and Ahsan Ullah Sarker, 55, a former union parishad member of Bhawal Mirzapur union of Gazipur. The identity of another deceased could not be known immediately.
Sub-inspector of Tongi model police station Nazmul Haque said Zakir and his brother Sazzad were waiting for a bus in Cherag Ali Market in Tongi. The accident took place when a Mirpur-bound  bus of ‘Bashumati Paribahan’ hit him in the area.
Locals rescued him and sent him to Bangladesh Medical College Hospital in Uttara and later he was shifted to United Hospital in Dhaka where on duty doctor declared Zakir dead. Police held the bus driver and seized the bus.
In another accident, a bus driver was killed and 15 passengers were injured when a Chandra-bound  bus of ‘Skyline Paribahan’ from Dhaka collided head-on with a bus of ‘Azmeri Paribahan’ from opposite direction in Nishchintapur area on Dhaka-Tangail highway under Kaliakoir upazila yesterday.
The identity of the driver could not be known immediately. Local people rescued the 15 injured passengers of both buses and taken them to different hospitals and clinics. Sub-inspector of Konabari highway police station Saiful Islam confirmed the news.
Meanwhile, a former union parishad member of Bhawal Mirzapur union was killed in a road accident in Bhabanipur area of Gazipur sadar upazila on Tuesday night.
Sayeed Azharul Islam, in-charge of Hotapara police outpost under Joydebpur police station, said the accident took place when a Mymensing- bound truck hit Ahsan while he was crossing the Dhaka-Mymensing highway at Bhabanipur bus station, leaving him critically injured.
Locals rescued him and sent him to Kazi Hospital of Bagherbazar where the on duty doctor declared him dead. The truck was seized, but the driver could manage to flee the spot. His body was handed over to his family members without autopsy.
