Several hundred people of Sreepur Pourasabha formed a human chain followed by a rally demanding that they be re-included in the union parishad as they were deprived of the municipality facilities.
People of Uzilab village under Sreepur municipality in Gazipur formed the human chain on Rajbari road in front of Gazipur deputy commissioner’s office from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm yesterday to press home their demand. Later they submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner.
Abdul Hamid, a resident of the village, presided over the programme while Mohammed Shahaj Uddin, Mohammed Abdul Kadir, Afaz Uddin,Mohammed Nurul Islam, Surot Ali, Abdur Rashid and Sharif Hossain spoke among others.
They mentioned in the memorandum that Uzilab village was incorporated into Sreepur municipality from Telihati union parishad when the municipality was formed.
They claimed that though they are now inhabitants of the municipality, they do not get any facilities of a municipality, including electricity, gas , water, drainage and roads.
They are deprived of all civic facilities, but they have been providing extra tax.
For this reason, now they want to return to the union parishad from the municipality.
They expected that if they are incorporated in Telihati union parishad, they will be able to get easily all the facilities from the union parishad, including birth registration certificate, widow allowance, old age pension and disability pension.
