The next edition of Bangabandhu Gold Cup Football Tournament will be held during the third week of April. This decision was taken at the executive committee meeting of Bangladesh Football Federation at its Motijheel office in the capital yesterday.
BFF senior vice-president Abdus Salam Murshedi told the media after the meeting that two local teams and four to five foreign teams are expected to take part in the Bangabandhu Cup. “We will take a final decision in this regard soon. But it is definite that two local teams will represent in the prestigious tournament,”
The meeting could not take any decision over the handing over cash prize money of US $ 50,000 to Nepalese team who won the Bangabandhu Gold Cup last time.
The BFF in another major decision had decided to reduce the number of foreign players in the Bangladesh Premier League. “ Now a team can register three players and out of which they can field two players in a match,” Salam added.
It was also decided to stay the relegation order of two teams Soccer Club Fein and Uttar Baridhara. However, the meeting considered a Farashganj Sporting plea to retain them to the premier league after spending two years suspension.
The BFF meeting was prolonged for hours as it failed to nominate two councilors for the upcoming election of Bangladesh Olympic Association.
