Charge framing deferred

Framing of charges in the FF Farook Ahmed murder case has been deferred for the fourth time, as Awami League (AL) MP Alhaj Amanur Rahman Khan Rana, prime accused in the case, did not appear before the court on March 15 on medical grounds. The date has now been shifted to April 24.
Public prosecutor Akbor Ali Khan said that charge-framing in the case was scheduled to be held in the court of Abul Monsur Mia, the first additional district and session judge of Tangail, on March 15. But Kashimpur jail authorities informed the court that Rana, MP of Tangail-3 constituency, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and thus could not appear before the judge. Rana, who also was a former religious secretary of the Tangail district AL, and his three brothers—Shahidur Rahman Khan, Zahid Khan and Saniat Khan Bappa— have been accused in the murder case. Veteran freedom fighter and influential AL leader Farook Ahmed was murdered on January 18, 2013.
The case was handed over to the DB police. Police arrested Aminul Islam Raja and Mohammad Ali. After being taken into police custody, Raja was produced before the court of additional chief judicial magistrate Md Abdul Hakim on August 24, while Mohammad Ali was produced before the court of senior judicial magistrate Sheikh Nazmonnahar on September 5.
Both of them confessed to their involvement in the murder. The duo disclosed the names of Rana and his three brothers as masterminds behind the killing.
