RAJSHAHI: Administrative officials and business leaders at a discussion emphasized the need for proper enforcement of the Consumers’ Rights Protection (CRP) Law for protecting the consumers’ rights, reports BSS.
Expressing gratitude to the present government for enacting the law for the first time in the country, they said the issue of the consumers’ rights is well accepted throughout the world and in the free market economy.
So, they said immediate step should be taken to start the enforcement activities alongside bringing all the businessmen and others concerned under the awareness programme in this regard. Department of National Consumer Rights Protection and District Administration jointly organised the discussion at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner here yesterday to mark the World Consumers Rights Day-2017.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Noor-Ur-Rahman and Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Sarder Tamij Uddin Ahmed addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with Deputy Commissioner Kazi Ashraf Uddin in the chair.
Divisional Director of Health Dr Ashish Kumar Shaha, Divisional Deputy Director of BSTI Khairul Islam, President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Md Muniruzzaman and General Secretary of local unit of Consumers Association of Bangladesh Golam Mostofa Mamun also spoke.Chief guest Noor-Ur-Rahman said consumer’s rights protection, in the broader sense, refers to the laws and regulations that ensure fair interaction between service providers and consumers.
He mentioned that the consumers’ rights in the developed nations focus on the right to information, choice, redress and representation, but we are deprived of such privileges.
