The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday arrested an importer from the capital for allegedly dodging duty in importing goods, reports UNB.
The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) deputy assistant director Madbubul Alam arrested managing director of Showvan International (Pvt) Limited Abdus Sohban Sadique from the capital's Segunbagicha area, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told the correspondent.
Earlier in the day, the ACC filed a case against him with Shahjahanpur Police Station for allegedly swindling over Tk 71 lakh.
According to the case statement, Showvan International imported machinery equipment from Taiwan during 2007-2014 and released those from Kamalapur Customs House. Though the equipment were taxable goods, Showvan International released the goods against indemnity bond, dodging duty of over Tk 71 lakh.
