That is to say, we have a large Chinese market of 1.4 billion people behind us, and face the great markets of South and Southeast Asia with a combined population of 2.3 billion people, as we are in the nodal position.”
Chen Hao said: “Over the last few years, Yunnan has been very active in merging into Belt and Road construction, and sped up interconnection and intercommunication regarding business and economic intercourse and cultural exchange with the countries in South and Southeast Asia. On the whole, we will tackle two issues at the same time. We will boost the transformation and upgrading of the tourist industry. We will make great efforts concerning both issues. First of all, we will regulate all illegal phenomena in tourism and standardize the tourist market.
Cultivating Yunnan-related agricultural brands
In answer to the question from a journalist from the China International Broadcasting Station regarding how best to seize upon the state’s boosting of the structural reforms of supply-side agriculture and thus build up modern highland agriculture into a major industry for enriching farmers and reviving the province, Chen Hao had the following answer.“Yunnan will try its best to cultivate cultivate a batch of ‘small giants’ in agriculture, while also introducing some ‘powerful dragons; to promote the development of advantageous industries. We must build up brands, including ‘Yunnan’s medicine’. We do not only have the well-known Yunnan Baiyao, but also have many traditional ethnic medicines. We must give play to our role as a trading centre for flowers, coffee and tea, as well as speed up the construction of Yunnan’s agricultural product transportation system—taking electronic commerce as the key point. And we must interact ‘both online and offline’.
