Over 80,000 apply in 4th phase

Over 80,000 students have applied so far online for admission in higher secondary level in different colleges across the country in the fourth phase.
The last date for the final phase of admission was Tuesday and the merit list of the admission seekers will be published today, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka sources said.
The sources said a total of 82,500 admission seekers applied for the final phase till Tuesday midnight.
After the publication of the fourth merit list, the admission will begin between July 25 and July 26 without any late fee, college inspector of Dhaka education board Asfuqus Salehin said.
Board sources said, a total of 10.47 lakh students have been admitted so far to different colleges across the country.
However, over one lakh students who passed the secondary school certificate (SSC) examination this year have refrained from admission.
In addition, some 35,000 students from the three previous merit lists did not take admission to any college as they did not get their preferred educational institutions.
Asfuqus Salehin said, “All students will get chance for admission either online or manually. No student will remain out of admission to higher secondary level. But there will be an announcement after the publication of the fourth merit list.”
A total of 12,82,618 students under 10 education boards passed the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination this year. Of them, about 1,26,394 students will be the new applicants.
A total of 11,56,224 valid admission seekers applied for admission this year through mobile SMS and online for the first time. But a total of 1,00,814 old applicants refrained from admission in the third phase of application.
As a result, over two lakh students, both new and old, were out of  application. Among these students, a total of 82,500 admission seekers applied in the fourth phase.
This year, the education ministry started the admission process for college level through online system but the system faced various technical faults from the publication of the first merit list.
