Pachpir railway station unit of Rail-Navy Communi-cation and Environment Development Committee in Kurigram on Tuesday formed a human chain in front of Kurigram press club beside Kurigram-Chilmari road demanding drinking water and toilet facilities in Pachpir railway station under Ulipur upazila of Kurigram district.
There is no facility of drinking water for train passengers in the station. A latrine has been set up in the station, but it is not being used for want of water.
Locals and the committee members formed a human chain in front of the press club at 11am demanding the services.
Chief Organiser of the committee Nahid Hasan Knoledge said ‘The station passengers have been
facing acute crisis of water and toilet for years. Standard quality and quantity of the railway services is not upgraded yet even though the government has increased train fare 36 paise from 24 paise for per kilometre from the 1st October in 2012 to increase service quality and to decrease loss in the railway sector.’ ‘I believe, if the railway authority ensures water supply and toilet facility in the station, the train passengers and income will be increased here,’ said Nahid.
