Mohammedan Sporting Club shared points with Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra in a 1-1 drawn match the Manyavar Bangladesh Premier Football League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.
After the draw Mohammedan brought their tally to 31 points. MSC’s arch rivals Abahani Limited also earned even number of points to remain in second position. Muktijoddha managed 22 points from 16 matches.
As all the strong challengers to top seeded Sheikh Jamal have almost derailed from the title race, now the they are fighting to confirm at least the runners-up trophy and Mohammedan Sporting Club, Abahani Limited and Brothers Union are closely contesting to bag the second place.
However, on the day, Mohammedan failed to continue the momentum after taking the lead as they could keep it only for five minutes.
The match was kicked off with both sides went on offensive approach and sharing the ball possessions evenly. Muktijoddha tried to draw the first blood but due to slow and uneven ground, Enamul could not tone with the speed of the ball, as Mohammedan cleared it before Enamul reaching to the spot. Mohammedan also rushed into the Muktis area with some strong moves but failed to produce a clear scoring chance in the early stage.
But the Black and White took the lead on 25th minute through Ismail Bangoura, when the Nigerian closely slammed home capitalising on a low free kick of Sohel Rana (1-0).
But Muktijoddha, who have been going under troubles for last few days, while they suffered three defeats in previous three matches in a row, looked a bit different playing with good pace and organised game, equalised the margin on 33rd minute with Enamul converted a penalty.
This time, Mohammedan defender brought down Enamul inside the box and referee Jalaluddin called for a spot kick and Enamul himself scored from the spot kick (1-1).
Muktijoddha were also very closer to go ahead on 45th minute but an excellent diving header of Enamul on Faisal Mahmud’s left side cross was brilliantly saved by Mohammedan keeper Ashraful Haque Rana. After the 1-1 first half the second half was also played in same pace and both sides worked hard o win the match and also went closer but failed to mark the targets and forced to share points.
