Police in separate drives arrested three suspected members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and Hizb-ut-Tahrir from Baghmara and Poba upazilas in Rajshahi early Sunday, a day after the arrest of five operatives of outlawed Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in the district.
The arrestees are—Abdur Razzak, 30, son of Anisur Rahman of Guniadanga village under Zhikra unian parishad in Bagmara upazila, Ariful Islam Shodoy, 23, son of Shafiqul Islam and Mansur Rahman, 25, son of Golam Mustapha of Sahpara village both are under Nawhata Municipality of Paba upazila in the district.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Bagmara Police Station Nasim Ahmed said a team of police conducted a drive at Guniadanga village early in the morning and arrested JMB member Abdur Razzak, 30, son of Anisur Rahman of the village. Razzak is a listed JMB member and was wanted in several cases filed with the police station. He joined JMB with the help of executed JMB leader Siddique ul-Islam alias ‘Bangla Bhai’ in 2004, said the OC. Besides, officer-in-charge of Paba Police station Parimal
Kumar Chakraborty said police conducted a drive at Natunpara village and Shahpara area of Poba upazila and arrested two members of Hizb ut-Tahrir. The special drive of police in the district began on Thursday and it would continue until further instruction, said Moazzem Hossain Bhuiyan, SP of Rajshahi.
