BNP senior leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy yesterday said Sheikh Hasina government’s relations with India have turned soured after the procurement of submarines from China by Bangladesh, reports UNB. “Hasina has procured submarines from China and signed various deals with it. India has wanted to know against whom the submarines will be used. That’s why you (Hasina) have got your relations with them (India) soured. That means India doesn’t trust you,” he said.
Gayeshwar, a BNP standing committee member, came up with the remark while speaking at a discussion arranged by Bangladesh National Awami Party at Photojournalists Association auditorium in the city, marking Moshiur Rahman Jadu Mia’s 38th death anniversary.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister formally inaugurated the commissioning of two modern submarines—BNS Nabajatra and BNS Joyjatra—at Chittagong Naval Base.
The two submarines, procured from China, reached Chittagong Port on December 22. Those were handed over to Bangladesh on November 14. Gayeshwar came down hard on Hasina for her remarks involving Indian intelligence agency Raw and Khaleda, saying BNP has foreign friends not any master. “But you (Hasina) have foreign masters, no friends.” The BNP leader urged the Prime Minister not to sign any anti-state deal with India during her upcoming visit to the country. He said their party always wants friendly ties with India as it is the largest democratic country in the world. “But, BNP always remains aware so that the level of friendship does turn into that a big brotherly one.”
