Mashrafe Bin Mortaza is fully fit to lead the side in ODI and T20 series in Sri Lanka, said selector Habibul Bashar Sumon.
The pace spearhead is bowling with full rhythm in the net without any trouble what gave the selectors a confidence to announce the limited over side within a couple of days.
Bashar said they were waiting for the development of Mashrafe before announcing the team as the senior most player of the Bangladesh cricket at moment was nursing his thumb injury, picked during the series against New Zealand in last January.
“He looks fully fit to play as he was bowling with full rhythm and run-up. That’s a good news for us ahead of announcing the ODI team for the series against Sri Lanka,” said Bashar, the former captain of Bangladesh team.
Mashrafe started bowling on March 5 after physio declared him fit to bowl. From then on he was bowling in small run-up and then gradually increased the run-up to bowl with full throttle.
“What more we can seek if we get a full fit Mashrafe,” Bashar said, making everyone understand the value of the player.
Mashrafe will play a practice match with the Under-23 team who prepares them for the Emerging Asia Cup. The match will be held in Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium on March 16. If everything goes well, Mashrafe will fly for Sri Lanka on March 18.
The ODI series is slated to begin on March 25 after which Bangladesh will play a two-match T20 series.
Meanwhile at least four players who were the part of the national team earlier will be drafted into the side in Emerging Asia Cup, a regional tournament which will kick-start on March 27.
The players who would fail to get into the Sri Lankan bound ODI team, will be eligible for the Emerging Asia Cup, said Bashar.
“I can’t say at the moment which four players will be the part of the Emerging Asia Cup. Once we announce the squad, we can give you an idea about it,” he said , informing that the ODI team will be announced on Monday.
“The squad of the Emerging Cup will depend on the Sri Lanka bound ODI squad. At the moment we have 20 players in the camp for the tournament. Some of the players from here would be considered for the national team.”
He said whoever makes it to the Sri Lankan bound ODI squad will get a chance to have a match practice with the squad of the Emerging Cup players.
“We have two practice matches for the Emerging Cup squad. The match will be held on March 16 and 18. The players who will be selected for the national team would get the chance to have a match practice. Most of the players were in the mode of first class after playing the BCL. I believe those two practice matches will help them to have a smooth transition to the ODI format.”
