Speakers in Rangpur underscored that small, cottage and handloom industries in rural areas can promote trade and business while creating job opportunities for the local unemployed youths would enhance rural economy, reports BSS.
The opinion came at a discussion arranged in the concluding ceremony of a three-day ‘Natun Jibon Banijya Mela-2017’ (New Life Trade Fair) at Public Library ground in the city on Saturday.
The Social Development Foundation (SDF) under the Bank and Financial Institutions Division arranged the fair to exhibit and sale products being produced by rural poor through Village Samities and create their linkage with traders and market operators.
Different SDF-assisted Village Samities and rural entrepreneurs of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Kurigram, Naogaon, Gaibandha, Khulna and Satkhira districts set up 40 stalls in the fair.
Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed attended the concluding ceremony as the chief guest and distributed the prizes among the stall owners.
