Minor domestic help dies after 'rape'

A 13-year-old domestic worker died at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) on Saturday afternoon after she was allegedly being raped.

The victim Kajol alias Kajli was daughter of a day labourer Hiron Howladar of Khejurbari village of Banaripara Upazila of Barisal.
Victim’s father said Kajol was the domestic help at the residence of a retired policeman Abdul Mannan at Baligona village under Sadar upazila of Jhalakathi district for last five months. 
Abdul Mannan along with his wife and another woman brought Kajol to home in an unconscious state on March 8, claiming she was suffering from a high fever, he added. Kajol was admitted to Banaripara Upazila Health Complex on same day. Later, she was referred to SBMCH on March 9 as her condition deteriorated.
Director of SBMCH Dr Sirajul Islam confirmed the fact, and said they informed the police as Kajol died after allegedly being tortured and raped. Dr Tajmery Begum, registrar of labour unit-2, said on March 9 the victim was admitted to the OCC in critical condition and died due on March 11 to excessive bleeding. Abul Kalam, ward master of SBMCH, said the body was sent to morgue for autopsy.
Sajjad Hossain, officer-in-charge of Banaripara police station, said no case was lodged till this report with this police station and case may be lodged with Jhalakathi Sadar police station as the place of occurrence was there.
Mehedi Hasan, brother of the victim, claimed that she died after being raped at her workplace, and said they would lodge a rape and murder case. “We demand justice and punishment of the rapist and killer’, said Jasimuddin, one of the uncle of the victim.
