In an emergency meeting conducted yesterday, the leaders of Dhaka Newspapers Hawkers Association expressed their concern about the decreasing newspaper selling points.
A press release issued by the association said that there were 200 newspaper selling points at different important parts of the capital but now that number has reduced down to half.
Most of the newspaper selling points were demolished by the two city corporations even though the association paid taxes for those places.
Some of the newspaper selling points were encroached by political leaders who demolished those to build structures there for their own purposes.
Under the circumstances, the Dhaka Newspapers Hawkers Association seeks help from the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to reestablish the newspaper selling points, the release added.
