Govt extends support to pvt universities for quality edn

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday said the government has extended all supports to private universities for ensuring good academic atmosphere to supplement the efforts for enhancing quality of higher education, reports BSS.
"We want smooth functioning of private universities.....We are providing all necessary support to both public and private university for enhancing quality tertiary education," he told the 5th convocation of Eastern University at the Basundhara Convention City Hall in the capital. Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof Abdul Mannan, Vice Chancellor of Eastern University Prof Dr Abdur Rab, Chairman of Eastern University Trustee Board Md Azizul Islam, among others, addressed the function.
Nahid said the government will take legal action against the private universities which have failed to fulfill their conditions to run the university under the rules of the Private University Act-2010. "Some of the private universities are yet to fulfill their conditions as per the Act and they have to face legal action after the scheduled timeframe," he added.
Nahid said, "You (students) are the future of the country. So, you have to be good citizens through acquiring knowledge to boost development process for building a prosperous Bangladesh."
The minister said a remarkable progress has been made in the education sector in the past eight years as the government is working sincerely to expand and improve quality of education in the country.
Referring to advancement of female education, he said a significant change has been brought in expansion of female education in the country as the government has made various facilities including financial assistances to boost female education. Now both male and female students are equally advancing in the education sector, he also added.
The government has taken massive programmes to enhance quality of education as it is the prime challenge in the education sector, the minister added.
He called upon the authorities of both public and private universities to enhance research works alongside updating the teaching methods and curriculum to generate new knowledge as well as ensure quality education.
