The country received $936.12 million in remittance in the first 17 days of the current month of July. Bangladesh Bank statistics show the four state-owned commercial banks Agrani, Janata, Rupali and Sonali—received $271.96 million from the expatriate Bangladeshis while four state-owned specialised banks got $11.75 million, reports UNB.
The maximum remittance came through local private commercial banks which brought $644.55 million while the nine foreign banks received only $7.85 million.
Among the private commercial banks, Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL) led the remittance earning as it received the highest remittance of $246.97 million, followed by National Bank Limited (NBL) with $40.93 million.
Of the state-owned banks, Agrani Bank received $97.91 million, Sonali Bank $82.20 million, Janata Bank $80.05 million and Rupali Bank 11.80 million.
Among other private banks who are in the leading positions in earning remittance include Uttara Bank ($42.01 million), Pubali Bank ($35.71 million), Dutch-Bangla Bank ($32.87 million), Bank Asia ($32.58 million), Trust Bank ($13.89 million), Prime Bank ($22.60 million), BRAC Bank ($22.28 million) and AB Bank ($12.91 million).
Like previous days, the NRB banks showed a poor performance in earning the remittance from the expatriates although the government allowed establishing these banks with high hope.
Of the three NRB banks, NRB Bank failed to receive any remittance while NRB Commercial Bank got $1.06 million and NRB Global Bank received $0.04 million in remittances from non-resident Bangladeshis during the period.
