300 sued for torching
Comilla police microbus
Comilla: A case was filed against 300 people over torching a microbus carrying policemen at Balutupa in sadar upazila in the district following death of a youth allegedly being hit by the vehicle, reports UNB.
Jahirul Alam, assistant sub-inspector of Sadar Dakhshin Police Station, filed the case against 300 unnamed people with Kotwali Model Police Station on Friday night.
Besides, deceased’s brother Manik Miah filed another cases against microbus driver Abul Bashar.
Meanwhile, a three-member probe committee, led by Abdullah Al Mamun, additional superintendent of Comilla police, has been formed to investigate the incident.
Earlier, the microbus carrying four cops of Sadar North Police Station hit the motorbike of Russel, son of Safi Ullah of Bhimpur village of Chatkhil upazila of Noakhali district, while chasing it, leaving him dead on the spot.
Being aggrieved, locals encircled the policemen and set the microbus on fire.
Later, a team of Kotwali Model Police Station rescued the policemen and brought the situation under control.
Indian medicines seized

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled Indian medicines worth Tk 25 lakh from Amrakhali at Benapole on Friday night.
Lt Col Khabir Uddin, commanding officer of 49 BGB, said acting on secret information a team of the border force conducted a drive in the area and intercepted the Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Sohag Paribahan’ at 9:30 pm.
They recovered the Indian medicines after searching the vehicle and handed those over to Jessore customs warehouse. However, no one was arrested in this connection.
A case was filed.
Six held with current net

Naval police in a drive arrested six fishermen and seized 45,000 meters of current net along with five kg jatka (hilsa fry) from three boats on the Meghna River in Sadar upazila on Friday.
A mobile court, led by the upazila land officer and executive magistrate Abhishek Das, sentenced three among the arrestees- Shafik Khan,18, Shohag, 18, Shahjalal, 20— to one year imprisonment and fined another three Tk 1,000 each.
Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Chandpur naval outpost, said the seized current net was burnt in front of the district fisheries officer, while the jatka distributed among the poor.
‘Next polls under current govt’
Rangamati: Mentioning that the next general election will be held under the current government, Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Mia on Friday said it does not matter who joins the polls and who does not, reports UNB.
He made the remarks while speaking at a programme marking the golden jubilee of Rangamati Government Girl’s High School. The deputy speaker said the government has been able to root out militancy from the country as it has taken a ‘zero tolerance’ policy to annihilate militants.
Fazle Rabbi said the government has already implemented many conditions of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord signed in 1997.
Presided over by Rangamati deputy commissioner Mohammad Manjarul Mannan, the programme was attended, among others, by local MP Usaton Talukdar, State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Dipankar Talukdar and Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board (CHTDB) vice chairman Tarun Kanta Ghosh.
