Eight people were killed in separate road accidents in five districts in past two days.In Kushtia: Two people were killed and 35 others injured as a bus plunged into a roadside ditch at Sahebnagar on Kushtia-Ishwardi highway in Mirpur upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.Akhtaruzzaman, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Mirpur Police Station, said the accident took place when a Pirojpur-bound bus coming from Kurigram skidded off the road and fell into a ditch around 4:00am, leaving the two passengers dead on the spot and 35 others injured.The injured were admitted to Kushtia General Hospital.
Our Jamalpur correspondent says: Two pedestrians were killed and two people injured as a microbus hit them at Barvita on Jamalpur-Tangail road in Sadar upazila early yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Zahirul Haque, 28, a resident of Dikpait village and Golam Mostafa, 50, a resident of Shaunia Baschara village of the upazila.
Mohabbat Kabir, OC of Narayanpur Police Investigation Centre, said the microbus coming from Tangail knocked the duo down as they were standing beside the highway and then plunged into a roadside ditch as its driver lost control over the steering around 5.30am, leaving them dead on the spot and two others injured.The injured were admitted to Jamalpur General Hospital.
Police seized the microbus but its driver managed to flee.In Munshiganj: A CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver was killed in a road accident at Shukhbaspur in Sadar upazila yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Akmad Ali, 35, of Charpara village in Sadar upazila of Kishoreganj district.
Sub-inspector of Hatimara police camp M Hafiz said the accident took place around 10am when an auto-rickshaw collided with another three-wheeler from the opposite direction in the area during heavy rain, leaving driver Akmad dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Munshiganj General Hospital for autopsy.
In Mymensingh: A minor girl was killed as a bus ran over her on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Bhaluka upazila on Friday.
The deceased was identified Shimu, 10, daughter of Mosharraf Hossain of Labankotha village in the upazila.
OC of Bhaluka Model Police Station Mamunur Rashid said the Mymensingh town-bound bus hit the girl in Dhalibari intersection in the afternoon while she was crossing the road, leaving her dead on the spot.
Enraged over the death, locals blocked the highway and torched two buses -- Alam Asia and Ena Paribahan -- during their demonstration.
On information, two police teams from Bhaluka Model Police Station and Highway Police camp rushed in and brought the situation under control.
Besides, a fire-fighting unit reached the spot and doused the blaze, added the OC.
Our Chuadanga correspondent adds: Two persons were killed in separate road accidents in Damurhuda and Jibannagar upazilas on Friday. A tractor hit the bicycle of Ehsanul Hoque, 13, a student of class six of Karpashdanga High School and son of Abdus Sattar of Thakurpur village in Damurhuda upazila, at 11 am, leaving him injured. He was sent to Damurhuda health complex where doctor declared him dead.
On the other hand Shahin Ali, 24, of Annantopur village in Jibannagar upazila, was killed when a truck hit his motorcycle at Santospur village.
