An outsider was held with drugs from a dormitory of Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital yesterday.
During a drive, police searched a number of rooms of FM Noor-Ur-Rafi Intern Doctors Hostel and arrested an outsider Alamgir Hosen, hailing from Nalcity upazia under Jhalakathi district. Police also seized hemp, yaba tablets and huge gambling materials from inside the room.
Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH) authority in association with law enforcers began the drive at dormitory of SBMCH yesterday. The authorities locked the main gate of the dormitory at 2pm yesterday and have broken locks of five rooms. Arrested Alamgir said local BCL leader Md Dolon sent him here on March 5 for running his land brokerage business.
Dr Nasimul Islam, convenor of intern doctors association, said a section of influential in the name of BCL took control in five rooms -405, 406, 407, 408 and 409 for a long. They were allegedly running different anti-social activities here. Recently two doctors were beaten up by the outsiders. Following the incident, intern doctors submitted an allegation against the outsiders. Dr Vaskar Saha, principle of the college, said the drives will continue. College and hospital authority said a total 120 mid-term and intern doctors are living in this hostel of 80 rooms.
